2023 was an incredible year for movies and there are still a couple months left! From fast cars and explosions to a plumber fighting a dragon we have seen it all! Today we will look at the highest-grossing films of the year.
5. Fast X

Fast X is the 10th movie in the Fast and Furious series and it definitely did not disappoint. Fast X is an American action film directed by Louis Leterrier with screenplay written by Dan Mazeau and Justin Lin. Like the other films in the series it stars Vin Diesel and Dominic Torreto along with the usual cast. Fans were excited to see Fast X as it raked in a whopping 704 million worldwide, with the production budget of 340 million it made some good profit and made history as the 8th most expensive film made. With a sequel in development it is clear fans still love the Fast and Furious films.
4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was the third and final installment about the Guardians and they definitely went out with a bang. This film is an American superhero film and was directed by James Gunn and produced by Marvel Studios. This film features Chris Pratt, Chukwudi Iwuji, Bradley Cooper, and the usual film cast. The budget for this film is said to be around 250 million and it brought it about 845 million dollars. Fans loved the Guardians series and this was a perfect ending to the amazing trilogy, it is said that they will return but not in their own individual movie. Up next we go into the past and dive into some history.
3. Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer is a 2023 biological drama film written and directed by Christopher Nolan and he only added to his already prestigious film resume with Oppenheimer. This film starred a very impressive cast with some big names such as Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon. This film also made history by becoming the highest grossing World War 2 related film and the second highest R-rated film of all time. This film brought in an incredible 890 million and growing with only a 100 million dollar budget. If you haven’t seen it yet I recommend running not walking to your local movie theater. Moving on if you thought 890 million was a lot just wait until you see what the next film is!
2. The Super Mario Bros. Movie
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a 2023 American computer-animated adventure comedy film which is based on Ninetendo’s Mario franchise. This film was directed by Aaorn Horvath and Michael Jelenic and produced by Universal Studios, Illumination, and Nintendo. The voice cast includes some big names such as Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Seth Rogan, and Anya Taylor-Joy. This film is an origin story for the brothers Mario and Luigi and had kids around the world begging their parents to take them to see it. The Super Mario Bros. Movie became the third-highest-grossing animated film of all time and the highest-grossing film ever produced by illumination. This movie brought in an astonishing 1.36 billion dollars with a budget of only 100 million dollars! To call this film simply a success would be a huge understatement. Now we move on to the highest grossing film of 2023.
1. Barbie
Barbie is a 2023 American fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig with a screenplay written by herself and Noah Baumbach. Barbie is the first live action film over the popular dolls and it was a huge success. With popular main actors such as Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling the film was set up to succeed from the beginning. Barbie was announced in 2009 and production began in 2014 but it didn’t hit the big screens until 2023, in the end this amazing film was worth the wait. This film pulled in an absurd 1.4 billion dollars with a budget of around 130 million dollars which allows for some incredible profit. This film made history as well, becoming the highest-grossing film released by a solo female director, the highest-grossing film by Warner Bros. and of course the highest-grossing film of 2023.
