Next is one of my personal favorites, The Fault in Our Stars. This 2014 film follows the story of teenage girl, Hazel, who has cancer, and her relationship with Augustus Waters, a charming boy she meets at a support group for cancer patients. As they grow closer they share a deep bond, exploring love, loss, and the meaning of life while dealing with the challenges of their illness. Despite their struggles, Hazel and Augustus embark on a journey to Amsterdam to meet one of Hazel’s favorite authors, but their story takes an emotional turn. 5. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

Last, but certainly not least, we have 2017 film The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. This film tells the true story of Henrietta Lacks, an African American woman whose cells where taken without her consent in the 1950s while she was being treated for cervical cancer. These cells, known as HeLa cells, became crucial to numerous medical breakthroughs, including the development of the polio vaccine and cancer treatments. This film focuses on the ethical issues surrounding medical research and the exploitation of African Americans in science, while also highlighting the impact on Henrietta’s family: particularly her daughter, Deborah, who seeks to understand her mother’s legacy and the significance of her cells.
