Take Control of Your Data: Data Privacy Week 2026 Webinar

In honor of Data Privacy Week, data librarians at University Library and Wells Library are partnering to help you take back your data! If you have questions or concerns about your personal data being collected, sold, exchanged, or leaked, this webinar will help you understand your digital footprint and offer small, practical steps to protect your personal data. Details are below. We hope you’ll consider joining us.

If you can’t make it to the webinar, we will be publishing a DIY guide so you can take action at your convenience (but here’s a sneak preview!)

Date: January 21, 2026

Time: 2:00-3:00pm

Location: Zoom

Description: Our data is everywhere: your phone stores data about your routine and habits, drawing from your digital calendar, your smart watch, and your photos. Your computer stores data on your browsing, tracking cookies, and suggesting purchases based on previous website visits. Your social media engagements are mined for patterns and trends. All of this data can be bought and sold—and used for more nefarious means such as doxxing and phishing attempts. But before you get too concerned, know that it isn’t too late to take control back of YOUR data! Join the IU Data Librarians from IU Indianapolis and Bloomington to learn more about the basics of data privacy and how to take action today.
